SeaDAS Unix Utility Programs

SeaDAS includes a variety of Unix utility programs (binaries and shell scripts) available via the Unix command-line. These utilities can be especially helpful when used in conjunction with other commands for automating data processing and manipulation. (Often the best way to automate data processing is by writing a master Unix shell script that makes use of a mixture of SeaDAS Unix processing commands, SeaDAS IDL commands, native IDL commands, and perhaps some of the SeaDAS Unix utilities in the table below.)

Unix binary or shell script Description
date2jd Converts "mmdd yyyy" string to day of year
l0chunk_modis Creates multiple L0 MODIS granules of specified length from input granule
l0info_seawifs Prints summary information for L0 SeaWiFS file
l0merge_seawifs Merges multiple L0 SeaWiFS files into one output file
l0regen_seawifs SeaWiFS L1A to L0 file regeneration
l1brsgen Produces a PPM- or HDF-formatted RGB image from a L1A (or L1B MODIS) file
l2brsgen Produces a PPM- or HDF-formatted L2 product image from a L2 file
l1info Prints summary information for any L1 file
l1mapgen Produces a PPM-formatted RGB image rendered in a Plate Carrée projection
l2mapgen Produces a PPM-formatted L2 product image rendered in a Plate Carrée projection
lonlat2pixline Converts lat/lon coordinates to pixel/line coordinates for L1 or L2 files
update_luts.py Checks for/retrieves/activates new MODIS L1B calibration LUTs, utcpole.dat, leapsec.dat, SeaWiFS elements.dat, orbit_table.dat and time_anomaly.txt files.
getanc.py Auto-ancillary MET/OZONE/SST/NO2/ICE determination/retrieval for use with l2gen binary
ncdump Prints HDF data and metadata in ASCII format (e.g. 'ncdump -h file.hdf' prints header info)
